Cobalt alloys

Cobalt alloys, also called cobalt-based alloys, consist of a cobalt content of up to 50% and the additions of the elements chrome, molybdenum, nickel, tungsten, tantalum and niobium. This high cobalt content gives the alloy a high abrasion resistance. In addition, cobalt can be used at high temperatures and it is acid- and corrosion-resistant and of great strength. In general, these alloys are difficult to produce because of their high wear resistance.

Cobalt alloys - areas of application:

  • Aerospace industry (turbine blades)
  • Medical technology (nickel-free implants)
  • Chemical industry (container)
  • Industrial furnace construction (slide rails, oven door, rider, etc.)
